State report shows inaction at Knoxville nursing home

Thursday, February 24th, 2005.

Local Knoxville news station, WATE, reported that investigators for the state of Tennessee found Hillcrest Healthcare North staff & administrators ignored sexual abuse allegations. As a result of the state’s report, two assistant nursing directors and an administrator were fired and the director of nursing resigned, although Hillcrest never admits wrongdoing in the report. Hillcrest was required to pay $23,000 in fines, and passed the a re-inspection.

As a result of the investigation, the facility has implemented some new policies. Hillcrest North says now when a resident reports abuse, law agencies will be called in to investigate. Also, employees will go through additional training.

Earlier this week, the state did a follow up inspection of the facility and found that Hillcrest North is in compliance.
