Testimony Continues in Nursing Home Beating

El Dorado (AP) - Trial continues Thursday for the former nurses’ aide accused of using brass knuckles to beat an 81-year-old patient to death. Forty-seven-year-old Gayla Smith Wilson is on trial for capital murder in the 2003 slaying of Willie Mae Ryan at the Dallas County Nursing Home.

State police Investigator Rodger McLemore testified at the trial in El Dorado Thursday that the elderly woman was beaten in her nursing home bed with a blunt object. McLemore testified that, based on more than 30 years of experience as a police officer, he thought Ryan had suffered blunt trauma from an object such as metal knuckles.
