Bill would let nursing home patients sue for damages

BATON ROUGE, La. Nursing home patients’ ability to sue for damages for certain violations of their rights, such as being a victim of mental and physical abuse, would be restored under a bill approved by a House committee.

Supporters say residents currently can only sue to get nursing homes to stop violations of patient rights, which range from religious liberties and being treated with dignity to mental and physical well-being. They can’t sue to get money for such violations.
