County committee to hear home’s residents’ concerns; The panel is created after complaints of abuse at River Bluff Nursing Home

Rockford, NC — Faced with complaints of abuse at River Bluff Nursing Home, Winnebago County Board Chairman Scott Christiansen named a five-member panel Wednesday to handle resident concerns.
“Are there still going to be problems? I’m sure there are, but we’re going to do our best to minimize them,” Christiansen told the board’s Health and Human Services Committee.
Last week, a former employee at the county-run home told County Board members that workers try to cover up cases of abuse and neglect. Diane Bergquist said that, at times, residents did not receive water or prescribed medicine and were denied trips to the bathroom.
