Coroner: Nursing home patient not slain

New Albany, IN – An autopsy showed that a nursing home patient’s body _ exhumed more than two weeks after her death _ had multiple bruises, but they likely were not enough to kill her, a coroner said.

Patricia Stocksdale, 76, of Clarksville, died Aug. 1 at Green Valley Care Center in New Albany. Her body was exhumed Wednesday from a grave at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in nearby Jeffersonville, just north of Louisville, Ky.

Floyd County Coroner Becky Davis Balmer, who originally ruled Stocksdale died of natural causes, asked for the autopsy after nursing home employees told her last week that “harm may have come to this patient.”
