Sex abuse alleged at nursing home

Springfield, IL – A registered sex offender living at a Freeport nursing home sexually abused three female residents, according to a state report released Friday.

The Illinois Department of Public Health, which documented the alleged incidents during an investigation completed in June, fined the facility, Provena St. Joseph Center, $30,000 for failure to prevent the alleged sexual abuse.

In a separate case, the department also fined Asta Care Center, a Rockford nursing home, $16,500 for allegedly failing to check a diabetic resident’s blood sugar level before giving him insulin. The resident had a hypoglycemic reaction and went into cardiac arrest.
