Atascadero nursing home deaths probed; Three died after coldlike symptoms struck 12 of the residents; state and county are investigating

San Luis Obispo, CA - State and county health officials are investigating the deaths of three elderly residents of a skilled-nursing facility in Atascadero in recent weeks.
They died after contracting coldlike symptoms that spread through the Danish Care Center, said Char Hill, the center’s director of clinical services.
Nine other residents and about 10 employees reported coughing and runny noses, Hill said. All of them have recovered except one employee, who has been advised to see a doctor, Hill said.
