Nursing home evacuation a worry: No one checks to see if emergency plans are possible

Key West, FL - Last month’s mandatory evacuation of the Florida Keys lashed by Hurricane Rita revealed critical flaws in the state’s elaborate emergency requirements for nursing homes.
Florida’s secretary of Health Care Administration, Alan Levine, confirmed that he personally stepped in to help rescue hundreds of nursing home patients in the Keys when the operator of three nursing homes failed to immediately heed state evacuation orders.
