Study Finds California Overlooks Serious Nursing Home Violations

California continues to fall behind federal standards in investigating nursing home complaints and addressing serious deficiencies in quality of care, the U.S. Government Accountability Office reported last month.

In an 81-page report, the GAO, also known as the investigative arm of Congress, stated that the California agency responsible for examining nursing home deficiencies and complaints understated quality of care problems and applied the federal standards for nursing homes inconsistently.
