No third chance: If abuse at nursing home continues, state should revoke license

Port Charlotte, FL – Alzheimer’s and dementia patients are among nursing homes’ most vulnerable residents. Ensuring their safety should be a top priority.

A Port Charlotte home’s failure to protect residents from abuse, even after a state investigation identified major problems, is outrageous. The problems cited by state inspectors include the sexual abuse of female Alzheimer’s patients by male residents.

The state Agency for Health Care Administration was fully justified in issuing an emergency order preventing the Peace River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center from accepting new residents until it puts proper safety measures in place.
