Madison, WI - A caregiver at a Madison Alzheimer’s facility faces a charge of patient abuse for allegedly battering a 90-year-old patient. Marie L. Wells, 45, faces up to six years in prison if convicted.

According to a criminal complaint filed Thursday:

Wells worked as a caregiver at Harbor House, 5555 Burke Road. On the morning of July 2, another care provider was having trouble getting the woman, who weighed less than 100 pounds, out of bed because the patient was being difficult.

The care provider sought help from Wells, who was training another employee. The three of them entered the patient’s room and Wells allegedly grabbed the patient’s hands and yanked her out of bed and onto the floor, where she slammed her back against the bed, causing a large bruise.
