Advocates for the elderly: Florida needs more volunteer watchdogs for long-term care facilities

Sarasota, FL - “It was really quite shocking,” said Osenga, one of a small but vital army of volunteer advocates for Florida’s 140,000 nursing home and assisted-living facility residents. “It was really a sad, sad case.”
The room lacked lighting, doors for the closet and a screen to keep bugs out when the window was opened. The facility had lost the resident’s dentures and failed to ensure his proper nutrition.
