AgeSpan Releases Senior Assisted Monitoring for Combating Abuse

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007.

St. Petersburg, FL - AgeSpan, a senior Internet enabling solution for seniors in the United States, unveiled their SAM (Senior Assisted Monitoring) Cam solution for combating nursing home abuse and monitoring health conditions in VA Hospitals. Over the past 6 years, AgeSpan worked to overcome the many difficulties associated with the use of cameras in assisted living centers and nursing homes including complicated daily maintenance tasks, high hardware costs, and infringement of privacy.

In addition to ensuring proper care and preventing abuse, AgeSpan also asserts that the camera is a perfect solution for family members and nurses contracted to visit the elderly in their homes, allowing caregivers to virtually oversee such things as a patients eating, treatment, and activity habits. AgeSpan also touts SAM Cam as a solution to allow seniors to continue an independent life in their current home, reducing their future living expenses, and making it possible for seniors to live near their families, but not with them.

From AgeSpan representative, Craig German:

“The latest camera technology allows the end-user to see in low to no-light conditions allowing for night time viewing, much like we’ve seen in video sent to us by CNN of the Gulf War. In addition, this same camera can take a picture at a prescribed time or an event, via its built-in motion detection features, and then e-mail the picture to a responsible party so that they can view it on the new cell phones, PCs, or laptops anywhere in the world! With the camera’s fast video frame rates you won’t get those robotic-like video pictures anymore that web cameras provide.”

“The AgeSpan Internet Protocol (IP) camera solution has lower initial outlay costs and quicker installations than any other network IP camera on the market. This is due in part to the camera’s capability to not require a separate power cord as it runs off the power provided in the Ethernet connection. This Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) feature results in enormous savings to the customer due to faster installation times than the typical CCTV installations as well as the use of no electrical subcontractors. And unlike a typical web camera configuration, you don’t need a computer or camera at both ends, further decreasing your costs. The best part of our solution is that fact that you can record up to 30 days of continuous video stream on any computer’s hard drive and thereby eliminate the need for expensive Digital Video Recording (DVR) devices and tapes. No more fussing with buying and replacing expensive DVR tapes every few hours!”

The Florida-based company, hopes to offer their Senior Assisted Monitoring “SAM” CAM solutions nationwide to Veterans Administration Hospitals, nursing homes, nursing home residents, assisted living centers, assisted living center residents, marinas, warehouses, and to private individuals for monitoring their vacation homes, home construction, pets, or their kids at daycare facilities.
