Editorial: Nursing homes need attention

Phoenix, AZ - While I am saddened to hear about the alleged abuse and neglect of residents living in the Arizona State Veteran Home, I am glad the issue of nursing-home abuse and neglect is making the front page.
This is not a new or isolated incident, yet is something most people would rather pretend does not exist. While the thought of a vulnerable adult lying in their own feces or urine for hours at a time while staff ignores the call button is disgusting, it has happened at nursing homes throughout the city and state for years.
