Franklin, NH - A former licensed nursing assistant at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen has been convicted of simple assault for allegedly trying to silence the screams of a resident with dementia.

Joanne E. Chase, 58, 20 Longmeadow Drive, Concord, was convicted of the Class A misdemeanor charge in Franklin District Court.

In an affidavit filed in support of an arrest warrant, Sgt. Frank Cassidy of the Merrimack County Sheriff’s Department said that Chase cupped her hands over the month of 88-year-old Flora Cantin and exerted sufficient downward pressure to force the woman’s head back into the mattress of the bed she was lying in and causing the victim’s eyes to widen in fear.
