Free adult abuse, neglect prevention seminar

Battle Creek, MI - Alternative Choices, a home health service company, is hosting a free seminar: Adult Abuse & Neglect Prevention.
This informative program will help direct access staff to:
- Recognize situations and triggers that could lead to abuse;
- Identify potential situations of abuse, neglect, and/or misappropriation of property;
- Implement practical tools to aid in preventing potential abuse, neglect, and/or misappropriation of property;
- Understand the designated avenues for reporting suspected abuse, neglect, and/or misappropriation of property.
The seminar is conducted by BEAM, a recognized leader in culture change training and resources, in cooperation with Michigan State University and the Michigan Office of Services to the Aging. This innovative program offers valuable information and tools to help prevent adult abuse and neglect and create an environment of understanding and respect for all. Program funding provided by a grant from the Michigan Department of Community Health, awarded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
The seminar is an all day event to be held Tuesday, May 22, 2007, beginning at 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with a lunch break at the company office located at 535 Emmett St E in Battle Creek. Seminar materials provided at no charge.
Continuing education credits are available for qualified individuals who attend the Adult Abuse and Neglect Prevention training. For this training, MPRO is approved to provide 6.5 contact hours for nursing continuing education by the Michigan Nurses Association (MNA), and accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation. The Michigan Department of Human Services, Office of Children and Adult Licensing, has also approved 7 training hours for licensees and administrators of Adult Foster Care small and large group homes. Nursing home administrators, social workers and other disciplines can individually apply for continuing education credits.
