Relatives sue after woman dies in summer heat wave

Stockton, CA - Relatives of a 79-year-old woman who died when Beverly Healthcare Center’s air conditioners went out last summer during a record heat wave filed a wrongful-death lawsuit Tuesday.
The suit, which seeks an unspecified amount of money, was filed a day after the California Department of Public Health announced it had fined the nursing home $120,000 for mistreating three residents, including Joan Southern, who died July 22.
