Editorial: We are all responsible for stopping abuse, neglect of elderly

Dallas, TX – An elderly parent or relative living in a substandard nursing home is one of the saddest moments in a life. It’s an indignity that betrays trust in unspeakable ways.
Last week, the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services issued a scathing report on conditions at the Amberwood Care Center in Celina. The assessment isn’t pretty: squalid conditions and grossly inadequate medical care – all called “pretty horrific” by a spokesman for the Texas attorney general, who filed legal action against the nursing home. Amberwood Care Center is now under the supervision of a trustee, and the state is continuing to investigate.
