Nursing home avoids charges in patient’s death: Grand jury finds insufficient evidence to prosecute Heartland-Fairfield Nursing Center in wake of West fatality

Lancaster, OH - Criminal charges will not be filed against the Heartland-Fairfield Nursing Center after the death of a patient in September.
A Fairfield County Grand Jury ruled Friday there was insufficient evidence to file charges in the death of Edith West at the nursing home….
West allegedly was left outside in her wheelchair on Sept. 23. She rolled herself into the parking lot and fell out of the chair. A visitor to the facility found her lying there about 20 minutes later.
West suffered a cervical spine fracture. She died from her injuries the next day.
