Nursing home critics slam governor’s veto

Riverside, CA - Nursing home critics say they are dumbfounded by Gov. Schwarzenegger’s rejection of a bill that would have required state nursing home inspectors to complete complaint investigations quicker and better explain their conclusions.
State legislators overwhelmingly supported the bill, which would have required most investigations to be completed in 40 days. But Schwarzenegger said it is premature to require the California Department of Public Health to do more because it significantly has improved initiation and completion of complaint investigations. He vetoed the bill last month.
