Home put on federal watch list

Thursday, February 21st, 2008.

Epsom, NH – An Epsom nursing home has landed on a federal watch list of facilities providing substandard care and, as a result, will be heavily scrutinized by elder care regulators in coming years.

Federal health officials confirmed yesterday that the Epsom Healthcare Center is a “special focus facility,” a designation carried by about 100 nursing homes nationwide that have failed repeated health and safety inspections, shown a pattern of poor care or been cited for a serious violation, including causing harm to residents.

Epsom Healthcare made the list because of an inspection performed last February. State surveyors accused the home of jeopardizing its 100 residents after inspectors found that, on several occasions, the staff had failed to protect the residents from harm or neglect.
