LPN’s death raises questions about Helia nursing home
Friday, February 22nd, 2008.
Springfield, IL – Details that have emerged since the death of a licensed practical nurse at Helia Healthcare on Dec. 23 have raised more questions about care at the Springfield nursing home.
Helia, 2800 W. Lawrence Ave., could face closure if a cutoff of all Medicaid and Medicare funding takes place as scheduled March 27.
Patrick Knott, 35, who collapsed in a first-floor bathroom during his work shift, died from an overdose of codeine and an anti-depressant known as citalopram, Sangamon County Coroner Susan Boone said Thursday….
When Knott collapsed, other drugs were found in his coat pocket — drugs police think he had stolen from the nursing home but which didn’t contribute to his death.
