Rock Island nursing home fined by state

Thursday, February 28th, 2008.

Bangor, ME - A Rock Island nursing home paid a $12,000 fine to the state for failure to monitor a resident who sexually abused one woman and was found an hour later fondling another, officials announced Wednesday.

St. Anthony’s Nursing and Rehabilitation was fined after state investigators found that the man entered the rooms of several female residents, inappropriately touching at least two. For example, he was found in the room of one woman who was heard yelling, “Help! There’s a man in here! He’s trying to rape me!”

He also made sexually inappropriate comments to staff members, state officials said, and was combative when staff attempted to redirect him, including hitting, pushing, scratching, spitting, throwing water on and urinating on staff.
