Public health officials fine Asta Care in Bloomington

Bloomington, IL – Asta Care nursing home in Bloomington is challenging a $22,500 fine for allegedly not protecting patients from a sexual offender.

The state public health department says the staff of Asta Care at 1509 north Calhoun also failed to adequately screen the man who was identified as a sexual offender by behavior shown at a previous facility. He had also spent six years in prison for sexually abusing a child. Health officials say that put all female residents at risk for sexual abuse.
