Liability wording falls from proposal

Oklahoma City, OK – Language requiring nursing home operators to prove they have the financial ability to cover claims of resident abuse or neglect was stripped from a bill Monday, leaving proponents to fear the idea could be dead this session.

Senate Bill 1549 originally dealt with cleaning up language with the Medicaid False Claims Act, but the Senate substituted that language with the requirement that nursing homes should carry at least $250,000 of liability insurance or show they have sufficient assets to cover any losses. It passed 45-0 in the Senate.
