Newly public, care center fined $42,000

Des Moines, IA – Newly disclosed state reports show that an Iowa City assisted-living center faces $42,000 in fines for the alleged abuse and neglect of its elderly residents.

The reports had been confidential under a state law that effectively blocked public access to the findings of state employees who inspect Iowa’s assisted-living centers for seniors.

In February, The Des Moines Register reported that residents of Iowa City’s Legacy Gardens assisted-living center had been abused by employees.
