Nursing home abuse details reopened to public

Des Moines, IA – The Iowa attorney general’s office has restored public access to state records that include the names of people fired for abusing elderly and disabled clients at care facilities.
The move comes nine months after the state court judges first began to limit access to the information.
Iowa Workforce Development, the state agency that handles worker’s claims for unemployment benefits, had for years released the names of caregivers fired for abuse. Then last August some of the judges presiding over the public hearings began sealing records in the cases involving the caregivers.
