Michigan nursing homes face an uncertain financial year

Detroit, MI - If the state Legislature approves Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s fiscal 2009 budget, the state’s 400 nursing homes will have Medicaid reimbursements shaved by $31 million, or an average of 2.3 percent per facility.
Nursing homes already are paid well below their actual costs for Medicaid patients, who make up nearly 70 percent of residents statewide. In Detroit, nearly 90 percent are Medicaid residents.
