Walnut Creek, CA - On June 7, a newspaper article reopened a painful emotional wound for John Campbell, who lost his daughter Debra Nickel late last year after she had a serious fall Nov. 24 at Atherton Healthcare, a Menlo Park nursing home.

Campbell had already filed a complaint against the nursing home with the California Department of Health, just a few days before his daughter died Dec. 1 at Sequoia Hospital. Nickel, 51, was suffering from Huntington’s disease, a chronic brain illness that eventually erodes a person’s ability to talk, reason and make normal movements, such as walking.
