Nursing assistant gets jail time for patient abuse

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008.

Pensacola, FL - A certified nursing assistant pleaded no contest Monday to charges that she abused a mentally and physically disabled resident of a Pensacola nursing home.

Valerie Hartley, 28, was sentenced today to one year in county jail for repeatedly striking the victim.

Hartley, who worked at Northview Community in the 10000 block of Hillview Drive, was arrested in early October when allegations surfaced that she physically abused a disabled nursing home resident.

Witnesses told authorities that at least one of the incidents took place in the residents’ dining room, where Hartley grabbed the woman and slapped her.
