Nebraska Omaha, NB - A caregiver who took money from an elderly Omaha woman and used it to buy a bed and breakfast in Iowa is facing five years in prison. Lori Knotek was sentenced Wednesday morning to the maximum punishment by Judge Russell Bowie after pleading guilty earlier to one count of abuse of a vulnerable adult. Knotek also has been ordered to pay more than $500,000 in restitution to the elderly woman whose money she took. Knotek was speechless as she left the courtroom. Her supporters said she was stunned by the judge's sentence. She and her family had hoped for probation.
